Sir Keir Starmer Pledges 'Unwavering' Support for Ukraine, Vowing 'Britain Will Always Stand With You'

Sir Keir Starmer has delivered a powerful and unequivocal message of solidarity with Ukraine, declaring that Britain’s support for the nation is, "unwavering", and will continue, "today, and always". Echoing the cross-party consensus on the issue, the Labour leader adopted the strong Ukrainian salute and gesture of goodwill, stating, "Slava Ukraini".

In a clear articulation of his foreign policy stance, Sir Starmer emphasised the critical importance of a stable and lasting resolution to the conflict initiated by Russia. "We've got to make sure there is peace, that it is lasting peace", he said, considering the outcome as a matter of direct national importance for the United Kingdom. "It is in the UK's interest that we get this right".

The comments align with Starmer's broader efforts to position himself and the Labour Party as credible partners on the world stage. His focus on international security was highlighted during a trip to Washington D.C. in February for talks with senior American officials. At the time, he stressed that, "growth and security are the foundations of his Plan for Change, and the UK-US relationship is integral to delivering them".

Central to Sir Starmer's position is the principle of Ukrainian sovereignty. He made it clear that any future peace process must be involve Kyiv, and not be dictated by outside powers. In a direct and resolute statement, he affirmed, "There should be no decisions about the future of Ukraine without Ukraine".

This message of steadfast support has been consistent. In recent remarks addressed directly to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people, he promised, "Britain will always stand with Ukraine".

By combining a commitment to robust support with a long-term vision for a durable peace, Sir Keir Starmer is signalling a policy of continuity and strength, assuring allies that, Britain's commitment to Ukraine's defence and sovereignty will not falter.
