Starmer's Rhetoric Blamed for Alleged Assault on UK's Youngest Council Leader

Nuneaton – Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has been heavily criticised for his allegedly 'disgraceful' rhetoric aimed at Reform UK after the country’s youngest council leader was allegedly assaulted in a late-night street attack.

George Finch, the 19-year-old Reform UK leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, reported being verbally abused and physically assaulted in Nuneaton town centre on Friday evening. He claims his attacker called him a 'racist' and a 'fascist' during the incident, which is now under investigation by Warwickshire Police.

While Mr. Finch suffered no lasting injuries, he directly linked the alleged assault to recent comments made by senior political figures. “It’s clear that the man who attacked us was wound up and sent into battle by the dangerous rhetoric of Labour and the Greens”, he told the Daily Mail.

The incident follows a fiery speech by Sir Keir Starmer at the Labour Party conference, where he described the politics of Reform and its leader, Nigel Farage, as 'racist'. Sir Keir told delegates that anyone arguing for the deportation of people who have lived in the UK for generations is, “an enemy of national renewal”.

Mr. Farage seized on the connection, condemning the language used by his political opponents. “I’m deeply upset that our young council leader was assaulted”, he said. “The words used against him echo the prime minister’s disgraceful attack on Reform during Labour conference week and wholly irresponsible comments from the leader of the Green Party”.

The Green Party has also recently targeted Reform, with newly elected leader Zack Polanski describing the party’s politics as, “dangerous, deceitful”.

In response to the accusations, a Labour spokesperson condemned the incident but did not address the criticism of Sir Keir’s rhetoric. “Violence, harassment or intimidation is completely unacceptable and has no place in our politics or society”, the spokesperson said. “Any such incidents must be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice”.

A spokesperson for the Green Party also condemned the violence but accused Reform UK of exploiting the situation. “There is no place for violence or intimidation in politics and using the disgraceful attack of a councillor to score cheap points is distasteful”, the statement said.

Mr. Finch, who has gained national attention since his election earlier this year, said he was with a female friend when the alleged attack occurred. He claims a young man assaulted him before following the pair, prompting them to call the police.

“I’m extremely concerned about the state of political discourse in Britain”, Mr. Finch added. “Reform UK activists at all levels are suffering intimidation and violence at the hands of left-wing instigators. The politicians they follow know this, but are willingly allowing it to happen”.

Warwickshire Police have confirmed they are investigating. A spokesperson stated: “Officers are investigating an assault after we received a call at around 2 AM on Saturday, 11th October, in which a man stated he had been pushed by another man in Nuneaton. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101, giving incident number 26 of 11th October".
