Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, Will Visit the United States for a Historic State Visit

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the King and Queen are set to embark on a highly contentious state visit to the United States near the end of next month, with the King scheduled to proceed to Bermuda afterward.

The upcoming journey, which serves to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence and honor the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, will include a formal White House state dinner and an address by the King to Congress.

Although the Palace initially chose to keep the specific dates private, Donald Trump bypassed this by publicly sharing the trip’s schedule, while simultaneously praising the visit as a, "terrific", and, "momentous", event.

This will be the King’s first time visiting the U.S. as sovereign, and the trip is already drawing significant backlash. A petition demanding the cancellation of the visit has surpassed 140,000 signatures, and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has labeled the plan a, "humiliation". Davey further criticised the Prime Minister, accusing him of a "staggering lack of backbone" for allowing the trip while alleging that Mr. Trump holds the UK in contempt.

The announcement follows the lavish reception hosted for Mr. Trump during his UK state visit in September, an event characterised by majestic displays, military bands, and a banquet held with historic silver. Despite speculation that the ongoing conflict in Iran might force a postponement or cancellation of the King’s long-anticipated U.S. tour, the visit is proceeding as planned.

Mr. Trump, who has consistently expressed appreciation for the grandeur of royal occasions, previously voiced his gratitude for the invitation to Windsor Castle, offering high praise for both the King and Prince William during the course of the September festivities.
